Yeah, you’re solving the “don’t need a twiddly climbing gear” while still leaving big jumps between gears - especially on the 11-32.
12-25 would be much better.
I just sold a chainset to get one with different length cranks - there are a lot of nearly new ones around and I basically broke even on the transaction - and I think standards are less popular than compacts so you could probably even come out a little on top.

54/42 and an 11-23 to be Lord of the flatlands. Messing around with your high alps gearing is just weird.
Why do you need 54/11 in flatland?
Are you incapable of riding high cadence?
Or is it strong tail wind?
If it's the strong wind, one would want lower gear for when wind flip side too, right?

I don´t know anybody who knows anybody whos riding 54/42..11-23.
I´m 67kg with nonexistent power output and my avg cadence is 90+ and as I said earlier, I´ve used single 48 front and 11-28/32 rear.
I haven´t dropped an idea to use single ring on this bike also, I just thought that using double rings can offer better/smoother gear ratio. With double rings I can definitely go with 11-25 cassette, but 34 inner ring is too small.

54/42 looks badass. Time to ditch the Apline gearing at move to a standard chainset at a minimum. I prefer to be understated and modest with my 50 which match my need (and cadence) better, just like OP.

It seems that Shimano knows what he´s suggesting 
The 39/50 won´t work well. Chain will drop between chainrings and shifting is slower. I changed back to 34/50 and it works as it should.
Maybe in the future I´ll go with 39/53.
