A custom build maybe? Second hand?

Mechanical disc brakes are a bit lighter and less heat sensitive than hydraulic. Hydraulic feels more solid though.

Why would anyone want to buy the lightest bike under £2.5?

I doubt you'll get lighter for the money without going used but an alternative would be the focus izalco max. Swift cycles in London are selling the di2 version for £2800 which is a steal.

Mine weighed 7.8kg out of the box but the frame is supposed to be one of the lightest around (790g + 320g) so I've easily got it down to 7kg and it's a really comfortable yet stiff ride. The stock fulcrum wheels for example weighed over 1800g....

Good tip.

Furthermore if you are interested in lighting your bike in the future there are certain parts that are hard/expensive to change later. Make extra sure you get a lighter frameset. Groupset would be the next thing as it's a hassle to change.

Not very important (weight wise) are handlebars/seat/seatpost/stem/pedals and accessories.

If you have the patience to choose each component at the time of purchase then you could save some hassle later but I think few bicycle stores have the best brands needed to get most for the buck in each area.

Not important for being weight efficient is to get obsessed with getting matching brands on everything. A lot of parts look good with their decals and first impression is "this must be good". Later one usually finds out it's not that good. Every part needs to be considered not by looks alone but by checking it's individual properties.

Perhaps: what is the best overall disk bike under £2.5.
Sometimes weight objectives are better achieved in future upgrades.
Buy the bike that offers the best frame and go from there.
Kinda like saying who is the lightest girlfriend I can find and then marrying her.
Might not work out long term....
