the area that facing stem which normally face hollow hole part of the stem?

I've drilled old Cinelli and Mavic bars back in the day in order to use Modolo levers with the Modolo cable conversion kit. Worked fine. Used both bars for many years.

When I ran my first Campy EPS cables, I did just this. There was holes already in the handlebars for the normal cables so the cables entered the handlebar there. Drilling a hole behind the bar where it attaches to the stem is where the EPS cables exited. The inside of the stem is where I put the interface and the cables exited the stem thru the steering tube [yet another hole, but that was reinforced with extra carbon]. The cables exited the lower portion of the steering tube [again, another hole reinforced with carbon] so they could enter the inside of the frame.

I have done this on three bikes and never had a problem. The handle bar of choice is the K-Wing FSA. Why? because that is what I had, and so far, it has not broke. All three handle bars had several mm thick carbon at the clamp area.

I've drilled alloy bars but I won't drill carbon. I also don't drill in the bends or near the shifter
