Hi martinfrias,

I've been pondering the same question for a frame in XCr (sans discs).

I've shortlisted the following:

Independent Fabrications (USA)

Field (UK)

Hartley (UK)

Obviously, there are plenty more to choose from (Victoire, Passoni, Tommasini), but in terms of aesthetics, fit, build quality and ease of communication for me personally, I have no doubt those three above could build me a bike to last a lifetime, turnaround notwithstanding (between three and eighteen months).

Let us know how you get on.

Best,

853guy

Feather, build quality second to none, does amazing stainless work too - https://www.instagram.com/feathercycles/

Cherubim makes beautiful stainless bikes as does English, especially if you want something unique looking.

But seemingly not clever enough to TIG weld.

Can you sand TIG welds down smooth like you can on brazed joins as per the Feather?

Filing back welds just doesn't seem to be done much (too hard or weaken joints? I don't know).
You could braze/fill in and over the welds with brass.

I’d take a smoothly sanded braze over nasty looking welds any day, not sure about the unpainted look though.

Hampsten, Zanconato, Gaulzetti (alu as well), Amaro were my shortlist couple of years back. Was also looking at Jaegher and Speedvagen

Depends on what you perceive as ugly; small consistent TIG beads exude skill and a certain beauty to me. Check out Mosaic.

Do you mind saying what you went with?
