2018 Giant TCR Advanced SL Disc - Clearance for 28 mm Conti GP 4000s?
Moderator: robbosmans
Not exactly the answer you're looking for but here it goes. I use a 2017 Rim brake TCR advanced SL and i can run 28mm Vittoria Corsa's on them with still some decent clearance. Then again, I know for certain 28mm Corsa's are not as wide as 28mm GP4000 but we're talking about the rim version, not the disc.
Anyway, my LBS delivered an Advanced SL Disc last week with a pair of 28mm Schwalbe's one mounted on the new tubeless Zipp 303. I am pretty sure the schwable's and the GP4000 have a similar width..
Hope that helps

They will definitely fit. I've installed a few 28mm Schwalbe ones and they measure about 29-30mm on the stock Giant carbon wheels.
Width should be the least of your worries with disc frames. There are no tires in 28mm that run as wide and as high as Conti GP 4000S. Mine measure ~31mm wide and 29mm high. Details specs www.bicyclerollingresistance.com/specia ... i-23-25-28
There’s so much volume in this tire that you can run at 60 psi and the ride is still firm. It’s irrelevant if you are 140lbs or 200 lbs.

I can't help you with whether that tire fits in the Giant, but the GP4000 II 700x28mm is my favorite road tire.
I was shopping for a disc road bike- one of the "must haves" was clearance for this tire.
I ended up getting a Scott Addict RC disc- It comes spec'd with GP4000 in 700x28mm.

I have the TCR SL disc and tried the gp4k2 28c on my Roval CLX and it's really tight. I'm afraid if you got a big quads and could push much torque the tire may touch the rear stay.... I think the relatively safe max width would be 30mm effective. Hope this help.
Update: I could barely slip and move a 3mm hex between the rear stay and the Padrone 28mm (30mm effective at 85psi).

How much side clearance is necessary?
3mm at each side is enough. This what I've had on my Addict for the last year (15.000km's) , without any issue

FWIW, I've often read that the 28mm GP4Ks are 31mm effectively. It's going to depend on the wheels, too, obviously.Bordcla wrote:

I'm surprised there aren't more reports from owners. I would have thought that TCR SLs would be popular on WW and that the GP4000 is so common that it wouldn't be hard to come across people who have tried the combo and can report on whether lack of stay clearance and rubbing are issues or not?
28c GP4000S2 taken last year. sorry I didn't bother trying it on the front

WW is more about exclusive frames, parts and bikes than mainstream manufacturers....Bordcla wrote:I'm surprised there aren't more reports from owners. Giant owners on WW will most probably upgrade their stock bikes with better or more expensive wheels etc....
