I want to replace my stem with something lighter but it only has a 40mm tall steerer clamp and I cut the steerer to that length. I'd rather not use a 45mm tall stem and have the upper bolt not really clamping over the steerer. So what's the lightest and what's the lightest-for-reasonable-money with a 40mm tall steerer clamp?

Thanks. That will definitely take the "lightest-for-reasonable-money" spot. Now if I feel like really opening my wallet are any of the Extralite/Mcfk/etc 40mm tall?

The Extralite HyperStem has a 38mm clamp height and requires a minimum of 32mm. Shorter than what you are looking for, but it should work just fine.

Or you could get a sexy ass Basso stem with only 25mm stack height. Serious #slamthatstem stuff going on right there.

I ended up getting a Kalloy Uno. For $5 more than ebay ($35) Fairwheel sells one that's matte black with no graphics and for another $25 they'll throw in black Ti bolts (a little pricey compared to Toronto Cycles). 101g for 110mm.

may be useful for guys cutting "bit" to much steerer... lowest stack stem is Rotor S3X. It's light too. And storng enough even for MTB.
