I have those on three of my bikes. They are very solid. And because of the inner circles under the top, they won't slip side to side (that's what I think those circles are for anyways...)

You can shave about 8 grams by going with extralite ultrastar, top cap, and hallow bolt. I have (had) a set like that, which I've ended up replacing with carbon top cap and ti bolt. Hold them in your hand and feel how light they are. You'll know what I mean.

Lightest setup is probably extralite ultrastar and 1 piece top cap like the one from Absoluteblack. (Cheap option is J&L ultrastar copy + boplight topcap). Should be around 10g in total. It's fine unless stem bolts are over tightened. This setup is not idiot-proof.

Specialized long expander (shown on a video) weighs 28g without topcap. Focus izalco has even longer (and heavier) one.

False.

UltraStar 3 = 5.9g (lighter than the copy, obviously)
EE Cycleworks expander only = 5.3g
EE Cycleworks complete = 9.5g

Cycleworks expander + Absoluteblack topcap = 8.6g

I prefer the JRC headset expander

It's a few grams heavier but IMO it's a better design with more points of contact

If we're talking about 0.6g being important why not use a light carbon cap, e.g. Veloflyte and a nylon bolt - 2.1g on my scales

Yes, that would indeed be the lightest method!

The final solution is ditching topcap and expander all together.

I had the Cannondale compression plug, but I removed it.
I think there may be a safety issue with using compression plugs that are so small and light. Have a look at this video, the guy is an expert.

The one I have on TMR02 is a full length version. But top cap is alloy. So maybe get a carbon top cap and Ti bolt? Anyone know what type of bolt it would be?

guys......

have a look at post no3, i already posted a link to this video, in particular to the part concerning the cd expander.
...and a link to another video, saying the contrary.

reading (or at least running down the page) before posting obviously is not so popular on this site.

There's nothing to read, just some links hanging in space with no narrative, which I think is why your links failed to grab my attention. :D

As mentioned above with the two videos, quite desagree saying the cannondale is "Not good".
Raoul wants an universal plug, then agree, you need to have full support on all pivots IDs.
Is the Cannondale the universal set? No.
Is it a very good set for the cannondale forks? Yes! The upper cap is perfectly adjusted to the inner diameter then offers perfect support for the upper screw as cannondale do for last 15 years (was the case since caad-5)
