Worn out skewer
Moderator: robbosmans
I have a set of kcnc skewers. They have done at least 40000k. They have been quiet and reliable. I did a ride on the weekend that involved torrwntial rain and gravel. The bike was filthy and the skewers sounded gritty when i opened them to remove the wheels for cleaning. So i cleaned and lubed them. Now they won't close tight. They will almost flick open if i push on the inside of the lever. Are they just worn out and the cleaning has exposed this?

Those are light skewers and you have put a lot of revolutions into them.
If you cannot properly close them, then toss them would be my suggestion.
A new set is not tragic on the wallet and safety / peace of mind is important for a critical component.

Yep. I think there may be a bit of play at the lever pivot which is the cause of the issue. I have ordered a new set.
