i'm 173cm , i 'm dilemma to choose size 47 or 51.
i m riding top tube 515 bike now, with 110mm stem.
Hmm.. I'm 174cm and was riding a 54cm with a 120mm stem. Unless you're super flexible and ride with LOTS of drop, a 47cm is more than likely too small. BUT, height is a REALLY poor indicator for bike fit... You're about to spend a fair chunk of money... get a bike fit first and know that you're new bike will actually work for you.

If you are on the borderline between two sizes. You can pick one according to your taste.
Smaller one let you ride it more aerodynamic and aggressively. and you can also adjust stack and reach to more comfortable position with different sizes of stem and spacers.
but from some point, too many spacers may be needed over recommended limit of manufacturers
On the other hand, bigger bike has higher stack already, so you can ride comfortably. but more you adapt the bike, you might change your position more aggressively. but it could be impossible you lower your handlebar to the level you want, so you have to use 17 degree stem or something unpopular ways.
If you just want to ride bike comfortably now and forever, then go with bigger one. but if you want to ride the competitive bike competitively, I recommend the smaller size. because you said it's the first time you ride a competitive bike. you may need many spacers at the first time, but as I said before, you would adapt and your position would more agressive than before.

Nice slammed stem!

I suppose you will have to go with a 47 with a long stem as the 51 will have a too long head tube/ stack.

I saw some photos from web, size 47 look very slope. And thinking to buy size51 have better look, maybe will be more comfortable

been off the radar for a while. I have a fitting booked with a top guy in a few weeks so that will give the right size to go for.
Just out of interest i sent my measurements direct to BMC for size advice and they came back with this suggestion. Interesting how he notes the change in geometry to a more compact size with the new slrs. However i quoted a few bmc riders i know who said the 51 is too long if your under 174 cm, im not sure this guy took into account that I'm 167/8. But height isnt really a major factor anyway.

see below, happy new year everyone!

Thanks for the measurement.

So I’ve use our sizing tool for the new Teammachine and here are the resukts that I got using your details

- Option 1: frame size 54 / 2 spacer / stem length 90mm

- Option 2: frame size 54 / 2 spacer / stem length 100mm

- Option 3: frame size 54 / 1 spacer / stem length 100mm

Concerning the remark of the length of a 51 for a person under 174cm, I have to be honest that it seems a bit strange to me.

I know our sizing chart is generally a little bit bigger than other brand, but this seems to me the good size for a person having that height.

On the new Teammachine, the geometry is a bit smaller and compact than the previous, that’s why some people have let’s say an upgrade in term of sizing.

I sat on both 47 and 51 at a buddies shop and both felt equally the same as far as reach. I could’ve have gone with either sizes.

47 would be good. If you have long inseam, go for 51.

hi guys, sorry to resurrect after all this months...but I am in trouble ;)

I am 170cm with inseam 79cm. I really thought 51 should suite fine...on paper. went to for a bike fitting...apparently 54 would be the way to go but this just seems wrong. Can it be?

It seems wrong imo. I am 171 with 78 inseam and I ride a 51 with a slammed 11cm stem.
