Quarq subtleties questions
Moderator: robbosmans
I'm trying to understand some subtleties between Quarq powermeter options.
I'm looking to get a BB386EVO frame.
From what I've read, if I want to start by buying just a Sram crankset, to later add the Quarq spider, i will absolutely have to buy the "Quarq Prime" crankset, wich looks like a normal Sram Force22 or Red22 crankset.
What are the differences ?
Longer spindle with all the preload adjustments on the Quarq Prime, I imagine ?
As opposed to the BB30/PF30 (short spindle) or GXP option for the "normal" Sram cranksets ?
Not the same amount of bolts ( 8 bolts) to fix the spider on the Quarq ?
Can't I just buy a Force22 crankset, and later add a Quarq spider ?
Quarq experts, please explain...

Guess if you want accuracy you have to buy the Prime. Didn't find the selling price yet though...

You have to buy the Prime, not the normal SRAM Red/Force/Rival cranks. I think it aims at OEM bikes rather than retail.

Maybe can look for new bike take offs for the Prime cranks? Otherwise you can find a cheap rotor 3d/3d+ and a p2m would be readily available...

You should be able to get an older generation 3-bolt Quarq spider to fit a regular Force 22 crankset, but not the latest 8-bolt DZero spiders. Power2Max also has spiders that will fit Force 22 cranksets.
Yes, but the P2Max spiders for Sram won't fit BB386EVO bikes ...
I found something else on the QUarq website...

•Quarq Prime Power Ready Cranksets are installed on bicycles as original equipment only. They are not sold separately.

Here's what I received from Quarq after aking them about Prime:

Hi Louis,
Thank you for contacting us with your question! I do not believe that any of the Canadian distributors will keep the Quarq Prime cranks in stock, but they are able to order them in. We can also place the order through us directly here in the US; if you are ordering as a part of a shop, we would just need to have the shop set up as a SRAM dealer. The retail cost for the cranks is $400USD+shipping. Please let me know if you have any questions or if you would like to place an order!
Kind regards,
Louis
