Launching Bottles Due to Carbon Cage Wear?

Hi, I've got several Blackburn Camber carbon bottle cages for my various bikes. I have found them to be a great lightweight option that...USUALLY...hold bottles securily. Recently, I've lost 3 bottles (including new ones) from my road bike when I've hit bumps. I found this odd, since I have yet to loose one on either my CX or MTB with Camber cages. The cages on my road bike are about 3 years old and have gotten a decent amount of use. I know it's not the bottles (Camelbak Podium), since I've used the same ones since I got the cages.

I'm wondering if other people have had an issue with wear on their carbon cages over time and leading to bottle launches? I'm debating to either put on some hockey grip tape on them or just get Arundel Mandibles. Thanks!

Can you compare the circumference of your bottles to other brands? I recently found the ones I was using were smaller than my old ones.

i had some speedplay cages that became less secure after a few years, the surface felt slightly grippy but over time the contact areas lost whatever the coating was and bottles could pop out on rough surfaces

i since switched to the lighter tune wasserträger 2.0, these are superb, never had a bottle move even on rough surface at 50+ kph (the bottles i use are the ones made by specialized and branded by many different companies)

Agree that the wassertrager 2.0 are great. They are the only carbon cage that I haven't had issues with. There is a rough train track crossing on one of my rides that has a habit of ejecting bottles and I've never had them come loose with those let alone close to ejecting a bottle.

Never had a bottle come out of my Arundel Mandibles, even when I've crashed, in five years.

They sometimes put that tape on for Paris Roubaix so you might try that?

I use the Arundel Mandibles on my CX/ dirt duty bike. Those things have a death grip on bottles. Almost to tight, have to really yank them out. My older tune cages leave black marks all over the bottles, no more clear coat on the inside surface.

They do typically wear yes, especially the WW ones. And the bottles eject much easier

Had good experience with Deda SR carbon cages- never a bottle lost

I concur on the incredible grip of the Mandibles. In fact I found the grip to be so tenacious that I had to "downgrade" to the less grippy Arundel Dave-O cages so that I could comfortably remove my Camelbak podium bottles! I have never had an issue with any bottle being ejected from a Dave-O cage and I have been using them for about ten years now.

Arundel and forget it!
