Lighten Hydraulic Brake Bike

For heavier riders it's a safety thing but for lighter it isn't. Thats my take on the subject. Descend carefully and enjoy a light bike. Alloy rims or brake tracks with swisstop black pads are an easy upgrade for caliper brake bikes that provides great stopping power.

Yeah, that extra 3/4lb discs added to my bike really slowed down my climbing... oh wait, it didn't.

3/4 lbs is a very good job. Congratulations.

Frame/hubs/spokes/longer cables or hoses/rotors/bolts/hydraulic components would generally add quite a bit more than that compared to their light weight caliper counterparts.

I think very strong medium weight or heavier riders can benefit the most from disc brakes because they are influenced less by the added weight and have more to gain during descents by braking later.

I'm a light rider at 60kg so I won't be going disc anytime soon. I'll let the superlight stuff get developed first.

my 1gen scott foil hmx, all red mech, zipp404 weighted @6.8, yesterday night completed giant tcr advanced pro with sram red22 hrd and porky cockpit for first testride @7.2
Can lighten it to 6.9 easily.
When I sewing through 5km morning jam hydraulic brakes helped me not once) On rainy rides caliper brakes on carbon wheels = single speed))

Does anyone know if a hydraulic disc brake system is lighter than mechanical discs? For comparison sake, would SRAM Red HRD be lighter than regular SRAM Red shifters with TRP Spyre SLC?

Mechanical calipers weigh more than hydraulic.

Hydraulic hoses and shifters weigh more than mechanical.

I don't know how much though. Depends on what you are looking at. KCNC has some crazy light mtb hydraulic brakes. Common groupsets like shimano duraace and sram red are not really going weight weenie on their hydraulics yet. I think it's because it's still new to road bikes.
