Replacing a Domane frameset of mine, and while I had chosen a Madone, I believe I’m better off with an Émonda.
I am no lightweight, but what I’m after is the ride feel and stiffness of my Merckx steel, with the ride quality of a modern carbon frame. I race masters and basically do Grands Fondo and stuff. Rim brakes, as I have some new wheels that I like already and a new Mechanical Record groupset.
Has anyone spent a considerable amount of time on an SLR v SL and seen any significant differences? Principally stand-up climbing stiffness, compliance and cornering.
Owners of one or the other, feel free to chime in.
Ta!

The 2018 SLR is an all new frame, the 2018 SL is basically the previous SLR with OCLV 500 grade carbon instead of OCLV 700. I love my 2018 SLR. It's a little stiff in the rear triangle, but I also have the disc version. It's a fantastic climber, the best climbing bike I've ever ridden.
If you decide on the 2018 SL, you might also want to see if there are any deals on the 2017 SLR.

Yeah that’s a good article, very honest. Wondering whether 500g is worth $2000, especially when my weight starts with a 9.....! I’m more after stiffness and ride quality.

Short topic, I’ve placed an order for a 2018 SLR frameset and 8050 Di2 complete group, with the internal bar wiring. Quattro carbon wheels. Alloy Bontrager aero bar and Blendr Pro stem. Bontrager Montrose Pro saddle. 56 H2.
So, who’s gonna run a tab on total weight, without cages or mounts?

Not true, the 2018 SL is not based on a previous SLR frame.
The 2018 SL has thru axles, the previous model never had them.

Look at the tube shapes. It's almost the exact same mold except for the subtle changes required for the disc frame (TA beefed up NDS chainstays.) It's clearly derived from the older design and not the new SLR.

Tobin is right, the rim brake 2018 SL is a direct mould copy of last year’s SLR. Oldnslow2 is also right- the disc frame is new, it has through axles.
The 2018 SLR is completely new again.
But this morning I received an offer for a Merckx EM525 that is too good to pass up.
I’ll get back to you all....

I now have 5000km on an SLR 2018 rim brake build with Di2 R8000, infocrank and 50's. I freaking love it.
