Hello friends,

My old Cervelo RS cracked, so Im beginning my research
on what to build up next. I don't need anything crazy, a custom Caad 12
might be the ticket. Im planning on buying a frame set, then all the components
separate. All new parts. Been on Campy Chorus (2012+2016) and Fulcrum Racing 1 wheels
for a good 5+ years. I don't mind going Shimano. Not sure if I want to do disc.
I do all my bike maintenance and I would like to keep things simple. I don't ride in bad conditions. I ride short 1-2 hrs harder solo sessions as work out. No racing.
Wheels-sticking to clinchers. Im not sure if the budget is big enough for Di2.
Mechanical groups might have to do.

Feel free to show off your rides, I would like to see some beautiful builds as inspirations.
Would like to see how wheels look against this frame.

thank you so much

Which frameset are you looking at? I recently bought a CAAD12 frameset to build up, the 2017 frameset is a really fantastic purple colour that's just not apparent in Cannondale's photos.

Pics of it in my buildthread (link in signature).

nice bikes man!

that purple, and your evo. sick color combos!

how would you describe evo vs caad 12. just your take how they ride ect

on the other hand, this bike project just got of the ground. Im not sure if I want to
go Evo (maybe, if I can get good enough deal) or stick to Caad 12. I would prefer to get a nice group (maybe di2) and better wheels if that means sticking to caad 12.

your bikes are awesome! how tall/inseam are you to be on that 54 ( i know its more to the fit then just high LOL) just wondering how those caads fit

I'm a disc convert. But I still have a really nice rim brake bike. It's more elegant. I ride it in nice weather.

If you don't need to ride in poor conditions I'd stick with rim brakes. They're cheaper, they're lighter and in the dry they work really well...and the elegant thing!

Ultegra Di2 6870 series has some really good specials at the moment due to Ultegra 8070 being released. Definitely worth the money in my book. You just don't have to maintain it and it always works.

Have you read this? https://cyclingtips.com/2017/01/cannond ... on-review/

Given you're on a budget going the CAAD12 option instead of a SuperSix Evo is likely the difference between Di2 and mechanical groupset or a significant wheel upgrade. You will definitely get more benefit from Di2 or better wheels than a carbon frame. The CAAD12 really is beautiful.

If you are to go disc CAAD12 make sure you buy the 2018 frameset with thru axle fork. Don't get tempted by the 2017 model closeouts that come with the heavier quick release fork. Similar for rim brake, make sure you get a frameset with the good fork. Check the aesthetic difference between the 105 spec bike and the Ultegra spec bike for reference. You'll see the difference. Consider also anodized versus painted, anodized is lighter.

thank you Grover!

I was wondering the following, how do those frames do with cranksets from Shimano or Sram.
are there any known issues with being compatible?

thanks

Wonder why the one QR. I wanted this bike, was hoping for thru axles on both wheels :(

Goes fine with either SRAM or Shimano cranksets. Many companies make BB30A to GXP or Shimano bottom brackets. Or put the cranks into the stock BB30A bearings with a Wheels Manufacturing adaptor. http://wheelsmfg.com/bbright-adapter-fo ... ranks.html

I actually meant to say put the Shimano cranks in it. You'll get them at a good price in a closeout Ultegra 6870 Di2 groupset. A little heavier than a set of Hollowgrams. But Shimano chainrings are the best in the business. Di2 front shifting with chainrings designed for it is phenomenal. Probably the biggest thing I noticed changing from mechanical. With other rings (SRAM/FSA/Praxis/Cannondale SpiderRing) it's just never as impressive. It definitely works, just not as well.

But you will have to use those shitty adapters or a different BB. It just doesn't work as well.

I've run an adapter on my Caad10 for the last 4 years and it's been great and haven't had any of the creaking issues people with BB30 seem to report. You just need to make sure to get one of the better adapters that thread into themselves (ex: Praxis). There is a weight penalty though...

I've used those shitty adaptors on many bikes without an issue. I've used those shitty adaptors on many other peoples bikes without an issue. Actually, by removing metal on metal interface and placing a piece of 'delrin' between the metal interfaces you're less likely to get creaking!

If you don't want to use shitty adaptors then there's many good options to use Shimano or GXP cranks in BB30A

Thank you all for your input. Im now 2nd guessing my self if Caad 12 (or even an Evo)
is worth the trouble, with the need of an adaptor:( Will this be a pain to maintain? I do love the look of those
frames, and I can totally see my self rock on of them.

Any one here has any pics of Caad 12 or Evo running Campy Chorus/Recored, Campy EFS.

Im a bike fan of bikes having their full groups, so I dont want to run a crank that isnt part of the team LOL

thank you again

Ooo we are talking about different adapters I think. These have good reviews indeed. I meant those plastic adapters which go outside your BB. You really do not want those.

Hello friends,

I been thinking, how to HollowGram Si w/ OPI SpideRing rate against Campy or Shimano.
Been thinking of just leaving HollowGram Si w/ OPI SpideRing and use the rest of the groupo.
Just an idea.

thx

IMO Hollogram SI+Opi spidering is the best option for a Cannondale frameset

interested in knowing if there are any decent options of swapping out the front disc QR fork on a caad12 to one that has flat mounts and thru axle bolt? It seems the rear is still QR if im not mistaken in newest frames but front is thru axle.

would say...a supersix evo disc fork work on CAAD12 frame if one could find one available?

have a made a decision on replacement frame yet?
