BMC Teammachine SLR01 Disc Team: which wheels ?
Posted: Tue Sep 26, 2017 5:10 pm
I am planing to get soon a BMC Teammachine SLR01 Disc Team as my rain bike:
(the pics above are a 51cm frame with DT Swiss 35mm wheels)
The Teammachine frameset will be equipped with the new Dura Ace Di2 hydraulic R9170 (this bike will be my rain bike), and the Pro Vibe Aero carbon handlebar (stem and seat post are BMC).
In terms of wheels, I am thinking of getting the Shimano C60 (or C40) wheels but I am still debating which wheels I should get for the BMC (Size 51cm) in terms of aesthetics (in terms of performances I can ride 35mm to 60mm over here as it not hilly and w/o too much crosswinds).
What do you think fits the best to the BMC with its big down tube and in my size 51cm? 35mm, 60mm? DT Swiss? Shimano?
- DT Swiss PRC 1400 Spline db 35mm:
https://www.dtswiss.com/en/products/whe ... spline-35/
Pro: "swiss made", matching the swiss BMC frame; light: 1434g
Cons: expensive, maybe too "low profile" for the BMC with the big down tube. I have to admit that I love the 50mm profile of my Bora on my C60.
- DT Swiss PRC 1400 Spline db 65mm:
https://www.dtswiss.com/en/products/whe ... spline-65/
Pro: "swiss made", matching the swiss BMC frame; not that light: 1669g
Cons: expensive, maybe too "high profile" for my size 51cm
- Shimano C40 - 37mm:
https://roadcyclinguk.com/gear/shimano- ... elset.html
http://bike.shimano.com/content/sac-bik ... l-r12.html
pro: matching the BMC R9170 as Shimano looks "neutral"; BMC pro team standard wheels; light: 1563g, good hubs
cons: availability clincher set for January 2018; maybe too low profile in terms of aesthetics for the BMC with its big down tube.
- Shimano C60 - 60mm:
http://bike.shimano.com/content/sac-bik ... l-f12.html
https://www.bikerumor.com/2016/12/30/sh ... sc-brakes/
Pro: pro: matching the BMC as Shimano looks "neutral"; BMC pro team standard wheels; good hubs
cons: availability clincher set for January 2018; maybe too high profile for the BMC in terms of aesthetics for my size 51cm
- Roval CX50 disc - 50mm:
https://www.specialized.com/en/en/equip ... set/134231
http://road.cc/content/review/226956-ro ... isc-wheels
Pro: pro: good review, nice hight with 50mm, light 1515g and quite cheap, DT swiss internals for the hubs
cons: don't match the "swiss" bike in terms of aesthetics (USA vs. Swiss).
- Enve 3.4 disc 38/42mm:
https://enve.com/products/new-ses-3-4-disc/
Pro: light 1420g, DT swiss hubs
Cons: don't match the "swiss" bike in terms of aesthetics ((USA vs. Swiss), "strange" look with 38mm front and 42mm rear and maybe too "low profile" for the BMC with the big down tube.
- Enve 5.6 disc 54/63mm:
https://enve.com/products/ses-5-6-disc/
Pro: light 1528g, DT swiss hubs
Cons: don't match the "swiss" bike in terms of aesthetics ((USA vs. Swiss), "strange" look with 54mm front and 63mm rear and maybe too "high profile" especially for my size 51cm
- Campa/ Fulcrum/ 3T:
Cons: "too" Italian for the swiss bike (better on my C60).
- Zipp:
Cons: Quality of the hubs.
