I use a tiny saddle permanently fixed to the bike. I even have one for all my bikes. If I had to rearrange my saddle bag based on length of ride, there would be a ton of rides where I forgot something essential. My wife works 12 hours a day as a resident physician so there is no option to call her to come and save me.
In 35 years of riding, I've gotten stuck one time and it was the time I was switching around my saddle bag and forgot a tube. Fortunately, another rider came along and saved me with a spare tube.
Do you use a saddle bag?

I have a phone and cash in case I need to take the taxi/train to the nearest station or even straight home.
I haven't been caught out due to a mechanical. So the $/weight saved in terms of weight weenie terms is , I would say, enviable
