9120 Dura Ace Hydro shifters arrived! - Somewhat disappoint - *weighed/compared*
Moderator: robbosmans
Starbike seems to be the First/Only vendor that has these in stock at the moment. Thanks Starbike!
264 + 268 = 532g – Listed weights in press materials are 505 total. These are 27g over listed weights.
For comparison, BR-685 actual weights are:
Right lever assy - 325g
Left lever addy - 323g
For a total of 648g.
What’s more they are HUGE. Literally the same size as my janky RS-685 shifters. Same exact size.
So, I paid $650 bucks to save 116g, with no improvements in ergonomics. Hopefully they shift better…

Well, 116g is nothing to scoff about, but that price is pretty steep. Then again, Weight Weenies have been known to do some ridiculous things to lose weight on the bike!
Thanks for posting the information, though.

Hopefully, you can sell your BR-685 to lower your cost
It *should* shift better, at least when I compare Shimano (MTB) XT vs XTR, the shifting improvement (feel) is very noticeable.
Shifter is not the place I would value the gram saving, but shifting performance does.

FWIW, Red mechanical which are going on my next build are 283g weighed. For the pair.

honestly not sure what they're worth. they're in excellent shape with no crash damage. they have the updated hoods that actually stay in place, as well as grip tape installed on the levers.
is $200 shipped reasonable?
feel free to send me a PM.

My thoughts exactly. You can build a non-fugly disc brake bike with Shimano R9170 or R8070 now, but not with 9120/8020 unfortunately.

it pains me to say that they are actually uglier than the 685s. the 685s have a conventional-looking upper "point" to them. the 9120s are very broad and round.
Yeah, they kinda look like the 505's. Sorry to hear you aren't satisfied with them.

they are indeed very light. even Force shifters (mechanic rim brakes) are 307g for the pair.
wonder how much does the HYD disc version of Red and Force shifters weight?
