Good Day,
I am after some advice about the powertap G3 freehub seal.
The Hub itself was a 2nd Hand 10 Speed model, I built the wheel up and happily ran it as 10 speed for circa 2000km then the bearings failed (inside the hub). When I replaced the internal bearings I decided to install a new 11 speed freehub as well. I bought a cheap Novatec freehub and reassembled the hub without the red seal. It seemed to work fine until recently I noticed a bit of side to side movement in the cassette. When I took it apart I realised the red seal was missing.
I took the red seal off the old 10 and loaded it into the 11 speed free-hub. Then after a quick spin around the block I quickly poticedthat the freehub was binding when it coasts and making whining noises. It would now appear that I did not correctly load the seal into the groove and in doing so may have stretched the red seal. I have made up an o-ring to test out.
My questions are:
1) Does the red seal have to be loaded into the groove?
2) Is there any other reason why the freehub may be binding?
3) Can these seals be bought on their own, if so where?.
Thanks in advance,
Calum
