Weight Weenies

Is anyone using a CAAD12 disc with mudguards, and if so what guards are you using and what size tyre can you fit?

I'm also interested in this. A friend has a caad10 with longboards and hoping I can do the same here. Not sure how to attach the guards to the top of the fork (double sided tape or industrial Velcro?) and not sure how much room is left between the seat tube and the tyre for the rear

Just to add some info here. I used pdw metal fenders last winter with zero problems on my rim brake caad10. It was a super tight fit with ultegra calipers and 23mm gp4000s. But the pdw fenders are great and once I got them dialed in, it was worry free.

I'm also interested in the answer and details regarding the clearance for disc caads.

they are just attached via 4 rubber band type things that wrap around the fork

What keeps them off the tyre at the top though if you can't attach them to the rim brake mounts?

just friction from how tight the bands are put on i guess.

That's how my friend has his caad10 sorted also. Seems fine. Any chance you have any photos showing clearance at the fork and behind the seat tube? There's loads of clearance everywhere else, it's just these two spots I'm wary of. I'd like to run 28's if possible for a bit more grip and control during winter

It'll be a hazzle to mount fenders on Caad 12 disc version. With nowhere to attach the fenders under the fork and with no rear brake bridge you'll have to rely on some MacGyver bodge, that wont hold. Do you have the frame already? Or are you considering buying one in order to convert it to a fender bike?

You'll be much better off with the Optimo Disc with all the fender mounts.

I totally agree that having proper mounts is nice but I can get an ultegra caad12 disc for last less than I would cost to get an optimo and get 2kgs off of it. 9.6kg is a heavy bike and defeats the purpose of wanting a racey feeling winter bike

9,6 kg is definitely reasonable for a winter bike. Racey feeling comes from the fit on the bike. Not from the weight. Weight is not relevant since it's a bike with fenders, durable/sturdy wheels and cheaper group set. That's the kind of setup you'll want for winter. Unless you don't have rain or temperatures below freezing in your region, if that's the case, you don't need a winter bike.

Just get raceblades and deal with wet feet, when it's downpour you're getting wet anyway. Being able to take them off/on in 20 seconds day-to-day is worth it IMO

9.6 plus guards, plus lights, plus etc.... no thanks but each to their own. Use raceblades in spring and they are nice for what they are but would not use in them in rain and 1-3 degrees for a couple of hours. As per the OP, I was just looking for advice on caad12 disc and fenders, nothing else
