Frame choice for a climbers bike

Hiya,

some of you may have read my review on Lightweight Mielensteins, which has prompted me to build a lightweight climber's bike.

I need some help choosing the frame...

All in all, I need it to be stiff and light - I don't need aero, tons of compliance, etc...

I currently ride a Giant Propel and I like the geometry.

Frames/bikes I am considering:

Cervelo R5 - can get a used 2014 one at a good price
BMC Teammachine SLR01 - not a true climbers bike, again, I can get a 2014 frameset at a good price
Fuji SL Elite - I can get the frameset at standard price, have read good stuff
Cannondale SuperSix EVO HiMod
Giant TCR - I have good relations with the LBS, but the frameset (advanced SL) seems heavy?
Bianchi Specialissima - costs 2x as much as the other options, plus I don't like the look of the rear dropouts... so not really considering it
Look Huez RS - like the look, not sure of the pricing on the frameset?

Sooo.... any advice?

Have you considered a Colnago C60?

C60 is too heavy, and I'm not a big fan of lugged design...

If you only care about light and stiff, you would be hard pressed to beat a Trek Emonda SLR @ $3,000 for the frameset.

I am in Europe and Trek pricing is usually higher here (say equivalent of 4000 USD - import fees, taxes, etc.).

Also depends on budget. If OP can get a R5 for a good price and the geometry works, that is a good option.

To add further confusion...
Focus Izalco Max, they're light, the geometry is reasonably aggressive.

Scott Addict SL is something I would consider.
Izalco Max I would also consider, though it lacks a bit of "flair" for me
Felt is a bit difficult to get...

I like the geo on my propel (size M), the only thing I question is after a bike fit, I have the saddle all the way forward (feels right to me). I don't feel like downsizing to an S though...

The Emonda is probably the best choice in terms of weight, but I don't really like the "bowed out" top tube...

In terms of looks, I like the Cannondale best.

I can get the R5 frameset for around $1700, not sure if that's a good deal? Has anything changed with the R5 between 2014 and 2016? I know there is a new model now with a shorter headtube...

Hi, I'm french, sorry if my English is not perfect..

I have actually a R5 from 2014, I'm a climber, I do a lot of mountain in the Alpes where I have a second house and I can tell you it's a perfect frame to climb and climb and climb...
You can make a very lightweight bike with it, with my mountain wheels my final weight is 5,350kg.

After a friend of mine have an Izalco max and it is also a very good frame for mountain.
