eTap cross chain issues?

Hello there,

I am now hunting for parts for an 1x11 eTap build.

I have hunted down the NW X-Sync chainring, 52T and I would like to know if I can use that AND a wolftooth components RoadLink in order to fit a Shimano XT 11-40 cassette at the back.

I am not using the front derailleur (1x11 - remember?) but I am somewhat concerned about some people saying that the RD may snap off? Does that happen?

Other options are to keep to a standard 11-32 or 11-28 in a 1x11 set up.

Did my research but cannot find specific info on my possible set up with the narrow wide ring and the wolftooth roadlink.
