Super six evo hi mod clearance issues

My white 2012 Hi-Mod had 29mm clearance at the tire, so 25mm was already tight if you wanted some safety clearance for an untrue wheel etc.

That was the only reason I sold it.

The follow up Orbea Orca OMR has 40mm clearance at the tire, so real 32mm wide tires would be possible... Limiting factor is the brake bridge, that's a maximum of 28mm - so a 28mm tire on a 21C rim will be the widest it will take.

Not sure where all the tire/ wheel clearance issues and questions are coming from. I have a 2015 High-Mod and a set of Enve 6.7's (24 mm wide rear and 26mm wide front) and am running Vittoria's new Corsa G+ tires in 28mm and have had no issues. I have seen nothing on the rear (scratches, rubbing, ext.) If anything the only thing I have noticed is some scratching on the top of the front fork but it has been superficial at most.

I believe frame size is an important metric. As you go up and down frame sizes, clearance increases and reduces (very slightly) accordingly. That was my experience with my old HiMod, anyways.

I have a 2014 HiMod (size 54) and have run (or tried to run) the following combos:

DA 9000 C24 clinchers
w/25mm veloflex corsas - no problem
w/27mm challenge paris roubaix open tubular - no go. stuck on rear chainstay

Zipp 303 firecresst clincher (28.5mm wide, 26.4mm at brake track)
w/25mm veloflex corsa - tight but works. No noticeable rubbing (and I'm 180lbs)

Easton EC90 Aero55 Tubular (30mm wide, 28mm at brake track)
w/25mm vittoria corsa cx - tight at front (sram red caliper) but works. No go at rear, gets stuck on chainstay
w/22mm continental sprinter - VERY tight at rear chainstay. Rubs a bit under sprinting/climbing out of the saddle. Wheel must be perfectly true and used with provided Easton QR (heavy and stiff - even dura ace QR no good).

Honestly I'm thinking I have to get rid of the Aero55 tubs. I threw the wheel out of true recently and rubbed all the way home. I think I have to accept they are too wide for the frame (or the frame + my weight). Its a shame cause I love the wheels.

I am a little confused on all of the fit issues, I have a 2013 Cannondale Super Six Race Edition Hi mod that I just fitted GP2000 II's 25mm size. Now I have not rode it yet but it appears that I have plenty of room for the tires with no chance of rubbing anywhere.

frame is a 52CM
Enve 3.4 wheel set
27.2 seat post size

Not sure why people have all the fit issues unless I am just missing something here. Wouldn't all the bikes from a particular year model be the same?

In theory, yes. Who knows if Cannondale had more than one supplier of these frames or or or... . I do know that early SSEvo's were pretty well known for having dropout alignment issues that would result in an off center wheel, so I don't think the qc in the early years at least was spot on. As I said, my 2012 52 has room for tires that measure 28 actual. So I dunno.

My 2013 had 1mm of clearance with 27.5mm actual. While that technically clears it's too close to be usable.

Present wheelset is HED Belgium C2, present tire is Specialized 24mm. Measures 25mm
Rims are about worn through, so I have Belgium Plus rims on the way.
Fingers crossed, will know soon what fits.

2014 Super six evo hi mod with Mavic pro carbon slc wheels and GP2000iis 25mm no clearance issues also no clearance issues with the Mavic griplink and powerlink 25mm tires either.

I know this will depend on your wheel set but what is everyone's opinion on what the min. clearance (mm) it should be from tire to chain stays?

I think that's a good question and yes, some wheelsets will be more likely to flex and rub. I ran it for a ride with 1mm of clearance on each side and didn't get rub with the Enve 4.5s but I wasn't keen on doing that long term. I think 2mm each side should be good.

I just fitted my bike with 25mm tires, I have 3mm clearance on both the drive side and non drive side. Is that going to be enough or should I go back to 23mm?
