Hey guys,

I have a 2017 Giant TCR Advanced SL with Shimano Dura Ace 9100 drivetrain. Can someone tell me which ceramic BB to order? I've contacted Ceramic Speed multiple times via email but never heard back. Thanks!

Presumably it's BB86 press fit with cups that your frame uses?

Don't waste your money and get a good brand steel bearing with something like 7 ABEC.

I think I'd be a little leery about support if there is an issue with a product from a company that can't/won't respond to a simple email inquiry.

Strange....I always get an answer from them. Usually within 24/48 hours.

I'm using a c-bear ceramic bottom bracket. Aluminum cups and no extra adapters required, so a creak free and rock solid solution for just EUR 90,-.
Read my complete review here: https://www.remo-knops.com/5417/c-bear- ... bb86-bb92/

It still runs very very smooth ...

Do ceramic bearings have ratings like steel? I fail to see how anything could be better than ABEC7.

abec is not the whole story, it covers tolerances of the rings, it's telling you nothing about the balls, smoothness, hardness etc.

http://www.gmnbt.com/pdf/GMN_Precision_ ... df?r=false

as a result, bearings with a 'lower' abec rating could outperform higher rated ones

for a bb, standard chrome steel bearings are fine, stainless is not as hard, what you gain on corrosion resistance you lose elsewhere, and if you maintain standard ones they won't corrode anyway

ceramic (hybrid really) can be run with oil rather than grease, which lowers resistance, but oil will not last as long as grease and they can feel gritty as dust gets it, if you put grease in then the resistance goes up

if you are ok running hybrids with oil or just light grease and keeping them maintained you'll get (slightly) lower resistance vs. equivalent quality steel, though of course they'll cost a lot more and the steel races can be trashed more easily running with just oil

I have knocked out ceramic speed bearings and replaced with hawk full stainless. Same with the jockey wheels, their stuff just didn't last. Plus the maintenance with the ceramic bearings gets old. In no way do i work for Hawk but they are the longest lasting bearings i have cone across, no maintenance needed. This is my personal experience and customers bike i have put them in. No need to pull the seals and re grease anything.

IMO, CeramicSpeed sucks. Big time.

I too have a BB86 that uses the "PF4130" BB, since the shell opening is only 41mm.
Their US$359 BB is basically a bearing with a built in collar, no separate cup & bearing (which is good).
But after a careful pro install, the bearings creaked like hell right out of the gate, and after an initial hour ride,
I had to go back remove them, and they were shot to hell. I mean totally useless crunchy bearings with lots of drag.

I emailed the company about it and have heard zilch.

Now I use the THM ceramic BB (less than 1/2 the cost), which are also bearings with collars (no cups),
and they installed and work great, very smooth and silent.
Thank you THM! Screw you, CeramicSpeed!

If CeramicSpeed can't offer excellent customer support when their customers are buying $500 jockey wheels, then they should pack up and do something else....
