Do you demand side by side photos of the original product and the one you want to buy before each purchases?

I dunno where you live but in my world you are warned by forums, sites, tv programs, consumer organisations and the government for counterfeat products and all kinds of internet scams.

4] verify the seller, name, tel number, bankaccount
5] ask the seller if there is really nothing wrong with the item
6] ask the seller if the item is really genuine
7] ask the seller for purchase proof and other proof of a genuine item
8] look online if you find the same photo's on other sites
9] never give your personal details like photos of your creditcard or other photos of your id's
10] dont do business with countries that score high on frauslists
11] invest in details of the specific item that are known marks for a counterfeat product
12] when you don't trust it , simply skip the item, there is more on the market

By law a buyer has rights and obligations.
One of the obligations is that the buyer has the duty to investigate. And a seller has the obligation to inform right.

Look at the price. If it's too cheap then it's a fake. Because those who paid little for a cheap frame won't complain. But if they paid full price they will report it as a scam to eBay. It's really this simple.

On ebay you need to look at the seller's record, look at the pics carefully, and ask the seller questions. The good thing about ebay is that you have the 30 day "not as described" buyer protection.

No, and No. I've dealt with every shop within an hours drive of where i live (which includes the second largest city in the country) and have had to deal with errors, omissions and outright cockups from all of them.

So i buy online and/or sort it myself. Far less hassle, massively cheaper and always done properly.

which LBS can i support in the USA that sells canyon?.....

yea the OP got got. It's up the buyer to know what he's buying and yes i agree if a deal is too good to be true it usually is.

I mysef didn't know the aeroad had copies although i new alibaba had fake handlebars etc.

The only "blind" protection you can have if you are unsure is go through paypal NOT GIFT and if it turns out to be fake or not as described , pray you find out before the 90 days or whatever.

it's not keeping track of all the fakes and what's out there but rather knowing what to look for in the original.

It's a very simple check; the fake Canyon's have a 1 1/8 inch steerer fork. The real ones have a 1 1/4 inch!

As Canyon is best known for its direct to consumer sale model, seems unlikely there will ever be a brick & mortar bike shop in the US that sells/supports Canyon.

I've got a customer with two of these piles. Easiest way to tell they're fake is when you actuate the direct mount rear brake and the seatstays bow outward.

The desire to obtain something for nothing always leaves you getting nothing for something.

If it makes you feel better, there are no Canyon selling LBSs in Germany either.

my question was rhetorical to those saying support LBS

That's how I understood it. But it seems that not everyone knows that Canyon is direct to customer only.

AJS914 wrote:The Civic example is bogus. First, counterfeit cars do not exist so it's not something people need to look for. On the other hand, when buying a used car you need to look for service, crash damage, or odometer fraud. Most people will get a Carfax and have a mechanic check out the car.

Similarly, if you are trying to buy a Rolex off craigslist you better make sure you know how to spot a real one versus a fake one or have it checked out by a Rolex specialist. Still, I can tell you that are fake Rolex that can fool a jeweler. They might have a Rolex movement but could have other parts that are fake.

Buddy, I've seen BMW with TRD decals, and Lexus with Mugen decal and so on.
Can you explain that, are they fake, legit???
What about JDM style Integra typeR in North America?
Do they consider as real or is it fake???

:smartass: Kidding aside.
Some fakes are so well made, you just can't tell.
My point was that if no one knew they made fakes, its unlikely that they would research on how to spot such fakes. You can't expect everyone that buys use bikes to be so information savvy.

Unfortunately, you have to be well informed if you are buying a used high end carbon frames. It's just a fact these days. Some people learn this the hard way.
