I am looking for some help to decide before committing to buy a vintage Colnago Master from eBay. My height is 176cm or 5'9.5". I has been told traditional size should be a size 54. The bike being listed in size 55 (55x55) and I wonder if this is still acceptable.

This bike will not be for serious racing; just for recreational and group rides with friends. Many thanks in advance.

Everyone is different / individual.

Some prefer slightly larger or slightly smaller frames than conventions might otherwise dictate.

As a recreational rider seeking comfort over outright performance at 180cm tall, my Master X Light 54 Trad fitted with 25mm setback post and 105mm stem is the best geometry I've ridden thus far and one I am more keen to replicate now.

I also ride a Colnago EP size 56 Trad. and find it just that fraction too large for me.

If want my opinion, at 176cm you are likely (not impossible - but likely) to find a 55 square frame too big.

I think you are right as I suspected so... better to stick with size 54 or smaller. Many thanks.

IMO a 55 would be too big for a 176cm rider. I ride a 57 traditional (55,7 top tube) and my height is 182,5cm.
