I have a Bianchi Oltre XR2 (50cm) and want to lower the bar height. Currently using a Deda SuperZero 11 cm stem (40mm clamp height, -8 degrees) and no spacers although the cone spacer is quite tall at 15.5. I can get a lower cone spacer but that will only drop the height by 6.3mm and I think I’d like nearer 15mm as my other bike is 14.2 lower and more comfortable with pretty much every other measurement being the same.

My calculations suggest a -17 stem will drop the bars by 17 mm (assuming the same clamp height) so am looking for suggestions? I know Deda do a -20 degree stem but that would be too low and I think it looks ugly when the stem has a negative drop. As my head tube angle is 71.5 the -17 stem would still have a slight 1.5 degree rise.

I can't seem to find any nice Italian options but I do like the look of is the Zipp Service course SL stem in beyond black as it's understated. It has a 41mm clamp height so would equate to a 16.5mm drop. I’m currently using the Deda SuperZero bars which I like and intend to keep as much as I hate mismatching. the

3t Arx Pro/Team

Cheap, relatively light, and stiff enough for me.

I like the shape but, unless i'm mistaken they do not do it in the stealth finish and the white graphics would not look good on my bike.

3T should be lighter than Zipp. Zipp's are between 136 and 142g from my samples. 3T with a few minutes of acetone and you'll have a stealth stem. Another option is to get the lower cone and run a Pro Vibe 7S. They're my new favorite stem and since it's 10*, it'll look better with a sloping TT.

I had this problem with my Sworks Tarmac in 54cm. Had a 140mm headtube and I wasn't low enough, so used a Zipp SL Service Course 120mm -17'. Nice stem. looked good, plenty stiff enough.

Now I've gone down to a 52cm Tarmac (120mm hT), I'm using a 130mm, -6' Zipp SL SC.

You can acetone off the logos. I've done it on two 3T stems.

Kalloy Uno 7 is available in -17. I use one on my 'daily' bike. Acetone for the logos and it looks at home anywhere.

+1 to those Kalloy ones off Ebay. I've got three, usually around 100g to 110g

+2 to those Kalloy ones off Ebay. i have 4 of them and they are rock solid. best bang for the buck. +1 on using acetone too to remove the logos if you find them annoying. :)

Aesthetics-wise, a de-badged Pro stem in -10 combined with the lower bearing cover would look best and would give you the 14 mm difference you are looking for. Otherwise either Kalloy or 3T - but make sure you get the right length if you're getting 3T, since their -17 stems measure around a centimeter longer than other manufacturers'.

How about the Basso diamante stem?

-11° and only 25mm clamp height?

And it is italian made.

That Basso stem looks gorgeous. Quite a price though.
Compared to a more normal 42mm stem, that's 12.5mm vs 21mm a delta of 8.5mm. It is 10.5mm changing from 17deg to the Basso's 11deg for a 100mm stem, therefore 2mm diff - unnoticeable. :smartass:
