173g left arm, 173+96g right arm+wide axle, (170mm)
219+5g rings+spider+bolts, (50-34T)
5+12g preloader+spacer (spacer not necessary)

They are lighter because of the integration of the spider however if you need a 30mm spindle, it only comes in a BB30/PF30 width which won't work with 386EVO, BB30a, or BBRight (wider shell than standard BB30/PF30/OSBB frames IIRC).

Cervélo Áspero - 8.28kg
Trek Madone SLR Rim - 7.73kg

Taking off the preload, thus freeing up the extra 5mm axle length needed on the non-drive side, should allow certain Sram BB30 cranksets fit BB30A. Following Sram's instructions, it does require adding some very thin spacers and a wavy washer, although this won't work with every Sram BB30 crankset. It's what did it for me with my CAAD12.

A longer axle = more weight.
But, BB 386 version is needed for this BB (-dah)
This is the version with the removable spider.

I'd try another scale to rule it out.
Yeah, it all went on my bike so at this point it is what it is. But the bike is light!!!

Has anyone (successfully) used "standard" five bolt chainrings on the SRAM Red hidden bolt crank arms?

I've got a few sets of older chainrings that I'd like to use; any tips?

I think you can do it but the issue is that hidden bolt.

You would need chainrings with a flat outer surface at the bolt holes. Some might appear flat but when you tension that hidden bolt you could create a slight warp if they aren't. They need to have a certain thickness too.

Another issue is the outer chaincatching pin that won't be located behind the crankarm.

It's not impossible though. Is it a great setup that I'd recommend, no. But you might be surprised how well it works.

You'd want rings of good enough quality so that you never really risk dropping chains off the big ring. I went with truvativ rings that are a bit flimsy (for low weight purposes) and it required some really tricky fd tuning to be stable. Less than ideal, but doable. Certainly not a racing setup but for recreational riding around perfectly fine.

If you could shim the rings, and drill a slightly recessed area around the hidden bolt hole, and DIY a chaincatcher by tapping M2 threads and putting a tiny bolt there. Then you could use any rings with an exogram crank. It just takes a bit of work and the modification to the big ring would be quite invisible.

Rickard, I wrote that I use Sram BB30 cranks in a BB30A BB shell, not the BB386 version. It fits. It does not require a longer axle and fits by omiting the preload adjuster. The Sram manual says so and also states which BB30 cranks will fit a BB30A shell and which won't. For example, Wert cranks are BB386-compatible but require spacers for BB30 and BB30A.

I made my Sram S500 BB30/PF30 crankset work WITH the preload adjusted by modding it to double as a bearing shield, with two modified 5mm headset spacers to full up the space on the driveside.

For anyone that cares, I've been trying to figure this out myself. Here is my Sram Red BB30/PF30 which I belive is also BB386. It's the removable spider (using a Quarq) 3 bolt version and says exogram on it. 172.5mm arms.

Weight without spider = 410g
Quarq 130bcd weight = 135g
Total before rings = 545g (seems heavy)

Is there a lighter option that I could also use with my Quarq?

My Sram Quarq DZero Carbon GXP for BB86 (172.5mm and 110 BCD) weights in at 556 total so they are no lightweight crank set for sure

The weight saving is in the hollow spider so if you go quarq(spider pwm) there is a small penalty.

How about crank arm mounted dual power meters. Should be pretty light.

Yeah I'm considering going with the Easton EC90 SL + Cinch power meter. Any experience with that? It's light!
