I suggest mileage on a chain per wear has a lot to do with where you live. In my area we have a very fine sand.. everywhere. Pull a chain off, throw it in my jug of clean gasoline, pull it out and wipe it hang it. While it's drying you clean all the derailleur wheels and chain rings.. then the chain into a small sack w ordinary penetrate/ lubricant.TwiggyForest wrote: ↑Mon Jun 21, 2021 5:31 amBeen using a mix of parrifin wax and engine oil anti wear additive and just brought up 0.5% worn on an Ultegra chain after 10,500km. Fairly happy with that, considering I wasn't religious with the application intervals.
The particle size of the sand residue coming out of the chain is incredibly small. A penetrant I use dries to a very thin coating... Thicker lubes and or wax space lubes just pick up this fine particle and add to the wear cycle.
