Yeah, i wasn't saying the performance failed, still may not of been as nice as they have wanted it. I actually sold a CAAD5 with it not too long ago at the shop. Still service a few as well.

no, i didnt see any carbonfibre. the derrailleur was so huge, because the battery seems to be integrated in it... i couldnt take a closer look, because we were riding on rough roads, and i didnt want to risk a crash.

they should inspire themselve from the ipod nano for the battery space

and the version seen by felix is a test version. and not the final version
the shape they will be much leaner then the mechanical ones, buttons and derailleur spring will change and they will ad carbon to it.

and it has an optical gear display on the shifter and an accu on the front der.

my brother rode with the in a training for "omloop het volk" and did not race whit it  , next week he will.
the japanese riders do not have a choise they ride the whole year whit it.

he showed me pictures but i don't have them for publishing i think i know why  .

p.s. felix friday the european team is there also, one of them, talks very much (PR) (a weenie with a 140mm stem)maybe he will tell you about it.

please have your brother take some pics!!!! though they are meant to be secret, if they are riding out in the open, there are no secrecy issues, because anyone can see them. it would be a different story if those guys just trained inside a facility, where access was restricted.

also, the fact that anyone can see the patent only protects others from copying the design, but not taking pictures.

There was another patent for an electricity generating BB design too. It is possible it is self sufficient

ok. dumb question.

what possible advantages could this have in contrast to the inherent problems of a battery, electronics and complexity?

I know Campy is releasing eletronicco in 07.

hmmm... well on a TT bike you could have shifting from both the aero extensions and bull horns w/o adding too much weight (much less than a jtek adapter and all that extra cabling and what not). You could create some ergonomics shifters w/o worrying about cable pull, buttons integrated into the bars from a variety of hand positions, even easily move shifting all to one side for cyclists w/ disabilities... you could start desiging some crazy concept bikes...

but from a straight up weight weenie-ness and racing (aside from the TT example) prospective, there probably isn't much advantage at the moment... the lightest bikes in the world are still using downtube shifters, like the M2 Racer Ghisallo.
