I tried my XL Equipe EVO shorts on again. I guess they will work. I think I'm just not used to the compression.

Would like to hear your comments on the Powerweave bibshorts in comparison to the Assos RS9.
Just my first impression after one short ride.

I received my Rapha Pro Team Powerweave bibshorts last Monday and the package felt almost empty. They feel really light. After weighting they are only 20g lighter than the Assos RS9 (180g vs 200g, size Large).
I like the pad, it's nice and dense and stays really good in its place. I miss the dedicated space for my private part though, don't understand why no one is copying this from ASSOS.
The straps look nice and are not bad, but without base layer they cut a bit. The Assos RS9 straps are perfection for me.
For the rest the powerweave material feels nice and I believe they will be great for warm and sweaty weather, as it seems to regulate better than standard bibshort material / lycra.
The length seems slightly longer than the RS9, furthermore the Powerweave doesn't have any leg grippers as the compresion should hold the bibs in its place. I'm not 100% convinced of this solution, but I also think that ASSOS doesn't have great leg grippers in general.... Santini does this better in general.

Conclusion, I like them, I think they will be great for the Italian summer and they fit perfectly with my purple/blue Rapha Pro Team shoes, but so far I prefer the ones of ASSOS. When you put on the RS9 everything just feels right and in its place.

I agree that leg grippers is something that Assos can do better.

Thx for your thoughts. I have the RSR9 and the RS9 and looking for a hot, humid weather bibs...so maybe these will fit my needs. I always wear a base layer even in summer, so the straps would be okay for me. Interesting that they are much lighter than the RS9. Thx again.

20g though. You're not going to notice that surely.

I think I'm in the minority that dont want a tight leg grippers. IMO they're the best to do it of all the brands I tried. No restriction, nothing is holding my thigh flesh, etc.

True. Although I'm surprised it is even 20g lighter since the RS9 is relatively light. Must be because of the mesh?

I would definitely say the straps + mesh are super light. I have been afraid to break them to be honest as they are almost weightless hahaha. But they seem well made (laser cut material), so it shouldn't be a problem.

I will try them out a bit more on longer trips to see how they hold up with hot long rides.

They are expensive as f**** thought... 325 euro's for this RCC limited edition (300 pieces). In August they become generally available and I think at 375 euro's.....

Yeah...by the time I was ready to buy...it was sold out...maybe to my benefit!

I really wanted to like those Powerweave shorts but the colours and aesthetics are not my bag at all. They're horrifically pricey as well. And with the pandemic killing my income a total non-starter.

I really hope assos will release a new road skinsuit. Their current one fits somewhat loose and is not the best in terms of aerodynamics according to multiple tests.
They'd easily win me over with their great chamois though.

Yeah they were sold out veeeery quickly. I think people also got them to resell as they are limited edition. I have seen them already on Ebay for 350+ euro.

I have to admit I got both a size M and L to see which one would fit better as they are my first Rapha bibshorts..... Seeing those Ebay prices I'm torn between reselling the size M and just returning it to Rapha.

I understand that it's not for everyone, but I like that it is atleast different from the standard black or blue. In August the black version will be released. With the price I agree, especially now those prices are really hard to accept and wages here in Italy are already very low.... I only got them because they fit with my shoes and I knew that there were only a limited amount.

I have several bib shorts from the s7 line, tiburu, cento and campionissimo - all in size L and they fit very good. Love the compression, yet very comfortable. And I am a regular build... 183cm 82kgs.
Wow, I'm almost the same size as you (183cm, 87kg) and the size XL Equipe EVOs I just bought feel a bit tight. And they feel a bit too "low rise" compared to what I'm used to. I could probably ride them and maybe they would loosen up a bit. Or I was considering trying some Centos in XLG but if they are even shorter in the leg I should probably just give up on the Assos dream.
Thanks guys for posting your heights and weights. You all seem pretty similar and most wear a Large. My s5 bibs are all XL, but since I lost a few kg's and those shorts are all pretty worn over the years, I definitely need to size down.

Biggest difference is probably my long legs though. At 1.85m my inseam is 92.5cm (regular is more like 88-89cm). The combination of Assos being on the shorter side and losing a few pounds (77kg now) means sizing down which leads to even shorter legs. The XL(G) actually sits just fine (my build is similar to @ryanw), but the leg grippers/compression aren't strong enough to hold them down.

I'll try a RS S9 in Large and otherwise look for another brand.

Thanks for the review... Did try to get a pair but by the time I woke up it was gone for my size.

What I don't like about Rapha bibs are the pouch area and how many seams there are.. Makes it very restrictive. It's almost anatomically incorrect.

The construction in the style of assos and q36.5 is by far more comfortable on longer rides. How is the power weave bibs in this area?
