Assos apparel questions
This is how cycling clothes are made, not only by Assos.
BTW, I guess that this mysterious head of the factory named Stavros is a Greek or a Greek-German. Mentioning his full name would give better credit to him but it seems that just "Stavros" sounds more exotic.

Nice to see there's an Assos sanctuary somewhere in the Internet. I'm on my 3rd year wearing the brand and loving it. I've put a ton of time reading on the internet and buying /selling stuff.
Anyway...
I foolishly sold my Bonka (yes, whoevers got one and is thinking of doing an "upgrade", keep it) and is temporarily using a Mille Evo 7 jacket as my winter jacket here in good ol Canada
Has anyone put in the hours with the new Mille GT Winter in either variation? Me thinks the only difference is the integrated scarf that the Ultraz copied from the Bonka.
If anyone's wondering the Mille GT Winter does fit like a skin suit-jacket. It's not a "Mille fit" per se like the old naming convention with the Bonka Mille.

His nationality is not, but his surname IMHO it is. If he deserves some credit and respect (which he does) why doesn't Assos say who he is. It's like you say "Ernesto makes beautiful frames". Ernesto who?
Maybe he wants it to remain private?
Why remain private? And then why mention 'Stavros' anyway?
I don't want to insist on this, my comment was because calling someone by his first name shows lack of respect if you don't mention his full name: "Write about Stavros who is the soul of the factory but nobody cares to know who he is." He is not our pal, he is a professional who has a name and deserves some credit. It may look like a small detail but it is not.
Maybe you're having this discussion because you're from different places in this world?

Yes, I was pleasantly surprised by the Hashoogi (and I'm never going to call it the Mille GT Winter Jacket again. It sounds all Rapha, God forbid). So I'm thinking that if my Bonkajacket was not doing just fine except for the colour of the white neck which has turned battleship grey, a feature of the otherwise splendid RXQ fabric, also seen om my white Falkenzahn, I'd get myself an Eisenherz (Deep breath: Mille GT Winter Jacket ULTRAZ).

It might be a nickname. Who knows. I don't. You don't.kgt wrote: ↑Mon Jan 21, 2019 4:07 pmWhy remain private? And then why mention 'Stavros' anyway?

As for not insisting, you're doing a pretty good job.
It's an article about how some shorts are made which mentions someone, by what may or may not be their real name, who may or may not want to remain as a first name only. You're quick to make assumptions based on very limited knowledge.
It’s a nice marketing piece, pure and simple, fitting right into today’s advertising trends. I love Assos stuff, as do many others, and a marketing blurb like this reinforces that brand loyalty for sure. I’m sure the head of the factory is very proud of his job, and they can talk of the Assos “family” all they like, but the fact is Assos is largely owned (majority owned) by an American business man and an investor group at this point. Focusing on “Stavros” makes for a great storyline however. Yet not a single picture of him in this well photographed promo piece. “Stavros” may or may not even be the head of the factory’s real name. This is a marketing promo first and foremost.
But it is nice to know that Stavros’ fruit trees are being well cared for, and that Team Dimension Data’s new S9 bibs are on their way. Yes, it does indeed make me ponder... “Will mine be next?”
What I’d really like to know, is if Stavros really has short femurs, or is the materials product cost savings from my 2cm higher tan line just going to feed the bottom line. Now that’s something to ponder. Time will tell if the quality remains the same.

Well my chum, my S9's today (RS) and appear to be pretty much identical to the Equipe Evo in terms of lengths.
So Stavros seems to have normal femurs.

The length change was made a couple years ago at least now. My 2cm sunburn strip has melted away. I miss the old Stavros, he had longer femurs than the new Stavros.

Old Stavros has gone. No backward glance.
Last seen walking into a Castelli factory.
Last seen walking into a Castelli factory.
I own both Castelli and Assos, to be honest in the past few years I have bought more Castelli as Assos seems over-priced now. The only thing I will always buy from Assos is shorts.
In terms of quality Castelli is nowhere close to Assos. After a couple of seasons Castelli stuff is falling apart, particularly the shorts. I have Assos shorts from five years ago that are still fine to wear. The Castelli equivalent are see-through and with failing stitching. The same is true of the jackets, I have two 10 years old (!!!) Assos 851 Air-blocks that have been washed many times but still keep their colour and stitching. I have two Gabba/Perfectto jackets that are falling apart after two seasons.
I like the style of the Castelli stuff, but the quality is pretty poor.
