Hello,
I wonder if it's possible to fit 36t inner ring to compact crank with 50t big ring?
AFAIK BCD is the same but Shimano offers only 50/34, 52/36, 53/39 setups.

Should be possible, you might even get better shifting because the chainrings are closer spaced...
I write the weightweenies blog, hope you like it :)

Disclosure: I'm sponsored by Velocite, but I do give my honest opinion about them (I'm endorsed to race their bikes, not say nice things about them)

It will work but you won't get better shifting since shifting ramps won't be aligned perfectly.

No better doesn't worry me, the question is wouldn't shifting be worse than 50/34?

Since the ramps aren't aligned the same (as TurboKoo mentioned), the shifting will probably be a little worse. So, probably feels like SRAM.

CXTony, why the dig at Sram? Their Yaw front shifting is spectacular.

As for the original question, I haven't set one up but my guess is 50/36 works fine. Just out of curiosity what is stopping you from going 52/36?

I've already bought 50/34 because I got really good price on it. 50t big ring suits me well, but 34t is too small. And inner ring costs 7 times less than big ring!
