Where is the best place to add weight?

(disclaimer - I'm trying to get my 10 posts for the Starbike 5% discount)
So next year my son races in the 17-18 age group. Some races - very few - but some are know to get strict about UCI bicycle requirements in that age group. A few kids got their bikes DQ'd this year, so while its rare - it happens.

So the question is - where is the best place to add about a kg to the bike for :
A-Best handling
B-Easiest to add and remove

I heard P Sagan was running a big steel BB spindle. Certainly that does not meet the B criteria. I often think maybe a higher center of gravity as in the seat post is nicer as the rider gets a more stable reverse pendulum effect. So current thought are a lead weight in the seat post.

In the seat tube or bottom bracket area to lower the centre of gravity.

rijndael, you are joking aren't you?

Hmm, the TDF riders got to figure out an easy way to cheat with these. Tape a few under the seat before weigh-in and rip them off before the hill. I feel a scandal coming.

I know a lower cg make the bike more toss-able. I have ridden the Brooks-pro saddles for years and notice the counterweight feeling of it. Also the DiII batteries are often in the seat post. Seems you think they should be lower near the BB.

Oh - got my 10 posts - I can go order from Starbike now!

I hated having a seat post mounted water bottle. Makes the bike feel funny.

I'd make weight(s) that bolt between the bottle cages and frame.

Half joking.

There are pics of pro bikes out there with 50g (or was it 40g) weights taped to the bottom bracket shell and down tube. I can't find them right now. I've read that a clause was added to remove that option, but I've not seen it.

Actually how about adding weight to Morocco performance? Like getting a very sturdy chain catcher, or bombproof tires and tubes.

Bombproof tyres and tubes = slow acceleration via raised rotating mass (i.e. a very bad ideA INDEED!)

Just place a cylindrical steel-weight inside the BB-axle, if you have Shimano cranks you already even have a bolt that stops it coming out. With Campaq/Sram you just duct tape around it 'til the fit is snug.

Low center of gravity - Good
High center of gravity - Just crap handling, the seat mounted bottles work for triathlon as active handling is of no.concern

a stiffer, heavier fork with an aluminium steerer. It's an easy changeover, and it may even improve handling

Ha ha! It was late and I saw the reference to wheel weights. I was imagining 500g of weights attached to each wheel!

A kilo is a lot to add high up. The normal locations are seat tube and bottom bracket area.
I take it you want something easily removable for non-UCI regulation races?

Heavier cassettes and skewers would be my first choice.
