according to the interviewer

Tyler Benedict - 06/19/13 - 9:58am
Matt- That comment came from Paul Lew, who reportedly sits on some related commission or board at the UCI (along with folks from many other wheel brands). Maybe the UCI is just waiting to surprise everyone with that rule on a start line (kidding). I’ll see what I can find out.

damn.... i predict if ENVE 6/7 wheelset will require a emergency redesign...

I see this as a positive to be honest. You have to draw the line somewhere; this whole aero thing (however good) is going a bit overboard. Without a limit people would soon be using disc wheels for flatter races.

Except for the fact that it's already prohibited.

Otherwise what a totally absurd ruling. Way to punch a huge hole in racers back pockets. I'll be amazed that, if Pat fails to get in, this will stand.

Another change of rules (sigh). The sooner the market-fixing UCI are disbanded with a grass roots run organisation established in their place, the better off the sport will be.

I think the current rule is 100mm, barring the likes of the Zipp 1080.

Since it's coming from Paul Lew, in a bikerumor article, I'm taking it with a pinch of salt

There is no current depth limit on UCI wheels, it just means that the wheel will have to go through impact testing.
The only 100mm maximum depth rule I know about comes from a CTT (English timetrialling association) requirement to have a minimum 45% open area on front wheels, knocking out Zipp 1080s, Hed H3D etc

if discs are prohibited, how then did someone ride the olympic time trial dual disc. I'm pretty sure they still follow UCI rules.

no discs allowed in mass start races. TT it's obviously allowed.

I'd go further if it were me. We appear to be seeing a lot of crashes in the peleton these days - 65kg blokes getting sudden crosswinds cannot be ruled out as a contributor to this.

UCI events will limit wheel depth to 65mm for mass start events

airwise, why not ban light riders? That makes about as much sense as banning deep wheels on the notion it's blowing professional riders off the road.

I'm not saying it blows them off the road. It quite possibly causes them to make corrections that can result in touching wheels or a sudden change in speed. The errors may be small but the margins are very small too. Are you saying the laws of physics don't apply to professionals? People seem to have remarkably high opinions of these riders ;)

I'm only basing my opinions from having raced with and against them.
