It's an interesting one - given the number of lightweight aluminum stems in use and lack of significant failures like this, I'll guess that this one missed heat treatment. If it was sent out in annealed condition then I can imagine a really hard pothole strike might be enough to produce this sort of failure, without undue pre-stress from the bolts. Without a metallurgical examination it's all speculation........

Edit: a speedbump impact, stated as the cause, is perfect for putting maximum vertical force into the front end as it, obviously, juts up 'out of the road', as opposed to being a hole in the road. If you're not expecting it, and your arms are straight, then the force can be really very, very impressive. Still, a properly made stem should never come close to yield with a 'normal' sized person.

Lol. I don't think a fake Uno stem exist. If one has failed (very rarely) it's due to a manufacturing defect and counterfeiting.

These are basically impossible to fake, there are only 2 companies in the world that forge stems and Kalloy is on of them. No idea who the 2nd is

I've bought 8 Uno / Kalloy stems off ebay. All OK, within specified weights, nothing broken etc. They do usually have the double faceplate thing that some don't like. Also as others have said their design means no gap at the top interface, which means larger at the bottom. Also the bolts are often different

Ive gotten 6 or 7 off aliexpress and did recieve one that had a defect on the steertube clamping portion where the top and bottom were no longer parallel. Made it so the headset wouldnt rotate properly (binded). Tried to sand it out but couldnt. Lost $21.50. Disappointing but not the end of the world. Wait another 6wks for another.

There are A LOT OF fake uno stems selling on taobao, half or one third the price but heavier.

You want the UNO 7. There are lower numbers too that look similar.

There are A LOT OF fake uno stems selling on taobao, half or one third the price but heavier.

There are 2 versions of Uno stem. Cheaper one is 6061 alloy with one piece faceplate and heavier, other one is 7075 alloy with 2 piece faceplate and lighter.
