EM3: wow.. thanks for the info. it's too late now to take everything apart. i'll do that after my ride tomorrow. how can i remove the crown race? is it easy to do or better to have the LBS do it? also, what would be a lightweight headset that will fit the 2009 AddictR1?

+1 for carbon paste. You know I have the same bike and that is what I used form day one. Never have had any challenges. Do you have a thin spacer under your compression cap? I see them below the stem, it is hard to tell from the pics. It is needed to get the torque to actually be effective.

On a carbon fork it is best to have the proper tool...see:

ok, today i got an email reply back from Scott. i thought they would recommend me to get the Ritchey WCS, but i guess not...

Hi,

Addict model year: 2007-2011 absolutely need a crown race between the fork and bearing. I will suggest that you order a complete, new head set and install it, so all parts match. There are some really good bike shops out there, so if the shop says the chamfer/angle match between the ID of the bearing and the angle on the race, I will assume you’re ok. Otherwise, we usually have SYNCROS brand head sets in stock, but are out right now. Within 3 weeks, we’ll have part # 228440 in stock, which is a perfect match for your frame.

Take care,
ben

Syncros is (was) a Canadian brand famed for making seatposts and stems bitd of the golden era of mtb'ing.

Disappeared years ago, then reappeared a few years ago making cheap imitations of its old products.

Scott then bought the name/ company and now uses it as it's in house brand

jekyll man: thank... guess i'll keep searching some something lightweight that will fit. my scott addict R1 is about 13.65lbs right now with pedals... so if i can save a bit more weight.. the better.. hehe :)
