Weight Weenies

After seeing a picture of WW user Donald's bike, I asked him about his hoods, he responded that they were mtn bike innertubes. I've used heatshrink tubing w/ success and they lasted over a year, but once they move, they're pretty much done. This was cheap and easy enough to try.

No pics yet, but I picked up a 26in tube for 3.99, estimated a length and cut and then stretched it over the hood. Definitely needs to be shaped a bit, but it seems to hold perfectly and it's nice and thin (and weighs 7g as opposed to the stock sram hood at 34g). Even if it doesn't last all that long it takes only a couple of minutes to replace and with a tube costing 3.99 (and being able to make many, many hoods from that 1) this could be a real winner. have pics cannot post them -- nevermind, came up w/ workaround-- they ain't pretty, but they work perfectly as is- didn't move at all on my ride this afternoon in snowstorm and they did not have any negative effects on shifting nor braking. each one is
7-8g.

Not the most ideal in terms of aesthetics but as far as WWism goes ... its well within acceptable limits as long as it functional and saves weight !!!

There are different sizes of 26 inch tubes, also 24 inch tubes can be used, even 700 c tubes. Thinner tubes work better. They can also be trimmed a little once installed. Mine look more like original hoods. Also I have a little light weight padding just under the top of the hood, about 1 1/2 inchs long. With a thin tube used they can be very light and really are durable. If using a 700 c tube its best to use a very thin 700 x 32c tube.

How about latex inner tubes on those shifters? I dare you but won't suggest any brand of comdom in particular.

Well, I don't thinks it's ribbed, but a WW does have to make some sacrifices.
