Hello guys,

I am thinking of buying one of these two framesets and I would like to hear your opinion.
Which you believe it's better and why.

Do you think that I must wait for the new SL5 ?

I haven't ridden either so cannot comment on ride, but from a finsihing point of view specialized is far superior and a mate of mine who has an r3 has been through 4 frames, which speaks well of their warranty but poorly of their build quality. He weighs 70kg and has been riding road not rough on bike.

Do not need to quote the post above

I do not get it. You advice Specialized while saying it is poor quality:(
World is crazy these days.

I recommend Cervelo because of its ride. I do have R3 and love it.

Permon an R3 is a cervelo! :noidea:

Never owned a specialized so cant say much about them except the fact that I find them aesthetically horrendous. I own two cervelos. Front ends are a little soft but otherwise ride really nice.

If you can live with the fact that everyone owns a specialized and are pleased with how they look then maybe a specialized is the way to go.

I would choose a SL4 over an R5 personally. Well, I did!

I couldn't be happier with my Tarmac SL4 LTD. It is super light and handles like a dream. I think both of the bikes are gorgeous but too many people I know buy Cervelos and just leave them sitting in their living room. Plus Specialized has an incredible warranty program.

When I had to choose, I chose the R5. It's an exceptional bike, plus you won't be riding a ubiquitous frame.

As far as the frame's features, it's feather light at around 760g to 770g for a size 56. It is stiff in all the right places and yet has a super comfortable ride with the wispy seat stays. I do a lot of high speed descents here in So Cal mountains and the front end instills huge confidence. It tracks through corners like it's on rails. The comment above about the front end being soft is for models that are a few years old now, not the 2012 R5.

@NIFTY frame build quality may have been an issue in the earlier stages of the R3 (a couple years back), but I have yet to hear of any issues with the R5 VWD frame. In any event, Cervelo truly stand by their customers and their warranty is top notch. I researched all this thoroughly before I committed to my R5.

Edit: Added a little more info about the ride and build quality of the frame.

Assuming price is the same I would go with the SL4. I'm a bit biased since 3 years ago I was debating between the r3sl and the sl3, and I ultimately decided to go with sl3. At the time the sl3 frame was significantly less the r3sl. You can't go with either frame.

Go with the r5. Light weight responsive handling and stiff.
