Overall Ultegra Di2 6770 topic
Moderator: robbosmans
I also just confirmed that all 11 speeds of a Dura-Ace RD-9070 rear derailleur will work on an otherwise complete 6770 10-speed system. In other words, the rear derailleur alone determines whether a system is 10 or 11 speed.

For those running the 10-speed 6770 group, upgrading to 11-speed would cost ~$355, not including the hub:
1. 11-speed compatible hub
2. 11-speed cassette (CS-6800: ~$70)
3. 11-speed rear derailleur (RD-6870: ~$250)
4. 11-speed chain (CN-6800: ~$35)
Notes:
+ I am running the latest firmware all components.
+ I did not test the RD-6870 since they're not widely available yet. However, I expect them to behave the same as the RD-9070.
+ Starbike just listed the RD-6870 as in stock (180 EU/250 US): http://www.starbike.com/en/shimano-rd-6870/

I'm about to take the plunge into Di2 thanks to a very generous friend. Here's the proposed setup, can anybody tell me if I'm missing anything or if anything is incompatible?
Thanks to 415brian I know the STIs will shift all 11spds of the RD but I only want 10 until I either change my wheelsets or upgrade my Powertap freehub body.
Also has anybody "tuned" any of the Di2 STIs? I'm thinking of sanding down the top layer of the lever and drilling a few holes before painting.
Code: Select all
STIs 6770

The number of speeds is dictated by the RD not the shifters. If you use a 6870 RD you'll likely need to have an 11s cassette...

6870 Rear derailleur in the post. Hopefully arriving by Friday. 11 speed cassette, chain and Ultegra 6800 wheel set ordered at LBS so should have 11speed up and running on an otherwise 6770 groupset this weekend.

Good, plug and play 11 speed!
