I found something abnormal today, it seems the BTP cage aren't made of real carbon fiber but rather
some kind sort of plastic, with fake carbon fiber coat/decals?? :shock:
if it weren't for the "unfortunate" peel on both sides, I wouldn't have notice this at all.
can anyone confirm this :?:

if you can see CF weave print on the edges of the cage instead of just a layered look there is a good chance they have put a cosmetic wrap over what ever else they have used.
A bottle cage like that would be made from a cut flat lay up then wrapped around a mold, you shouldn't see CF weave on the edges.

That said they could have been marketing driven enough to just wrap the less attractive CF structure with a cosmetic surface.

@Phill P
Many thanks for the insight.
I do see some signs of CF weave print on the edge albeit blurry.

Either I had ended buying a fake BTP cage (anyone seen a fake BTP?) or in fact this is the real deal but BTP has been
making it out of plastic and fooled us all... :x

It's just BTP carbon bottlecage with a small part with resin without carbon.
Not fake, not abnormal, just bad production.

@TimmS,
Thanks for the clarification.

I didn't know that resin was used on its construction, all along I was having an impression that BTP cages
are made of CF sheets and molded into shape.
the cage does "feel" different from my other CF cages and this probably meant that the entire cage is
made of resin, rather than sheets of carbon fiber.

You should peel some more off or sand it down with some fine paper and see what is going on . It would be worth sending a email to BTP and see how they respond
I have some tune skyline cages and they are def carbon .

CF without resin is just fabric, at that point you could just cut up some Levis and make your own floppy fabric bottle cages. :D

I think you could make a super light one out of pipe cleaners or papier-mache or even toe nail clippings stuck together with your own ear wax
:lol:

Which would actually probably be stiffer than some of the silly light cages...

I imagine bottle cages made out of pipe cleaners would bush your legs and cause a nasty shaver rash eventually. Bad enough being made fun of for shaving your legs let alone a nasty rash as well.

carbon fiber IS essentially a plastic. Tiny micro strands of polyethylene-based plastic, bonded together with polymer resin (also considered a plastic).

I wonder if you could weave one together from dreadlocked human hair for that true hippie organic vibe.

I have a couple of BTP Cages, and they are most definitely real carbon fibre, other than different design, all my Carbon fibre cages have a distinct carbon fibre weave to them coated in a resin. You would definitely know the difference between a fake and the real deal.
I also bought my BTP cages from a well known WW member, whom I have full trust in. :thumbup:
