bin it and go back to 7800 if you want good rear shifting, Ive worked on hundreds of 7900 setups with loads of different cable options and none work as well.

Just wait for 11sp Shimano when shifting takes another dive. IMO shifting was best with 8 and 9 speed drivetrains.

Look 595 internal (std shimano) cable routing - 7900 - and it shifts like a dream, easily as good as the Ultegra sl on my other bike.
Its a different feel, yes but does the job and the hoods i find more comfy and i dont find the setup of it any different from any other Shimano 10sp.
Downside - the shifters seem to rattle far more than i'm used too.

Been running 7900 for like 3 years, now got a secondary bike with 6700. Interestingly the 6700 feels way smoother, much more like the 6600 (which I thought had the mechanical advantage of avoiding the handlebar bends). Anyway my 7900 and 6700 are set up very similar, both externally routed to the frame, Nokon housing, KMC chain. Surprised there is such a difference, the 7900 requires more force to shift, and feels snappier, the 6700 is very smooth.

My 7900 has been shifting perfectly for 3 3 years. It required slightly more force to shift at first but, once I installed Gore Ride-On Pro cables it shifts as smooth and refined as my 7800 equipped bike. In fact smoother. So the derailleur cable does make a difference.

Ride a 9000 bike and you will hate your 7900 rear shifting!

Shifting with my bikes in order of ease and smoothness:
7970>6800>7900>6700

wassertreter: Wait for a while when the wires isn't new and 6700 sucks. Works shifting performance and really sensitive with wire. Even 105 5700 is better.

I installed 9000 cables on my 5700 equipped bike. Makes a big difference in shift quality. With regular Jagwire cables the bike shifted noticeably worse than my 4600 Tiagra equipped bike.

I will probably go with 6800 cables next time to save a few dollars.

I've used 6500, 6700 and 6800. 6500 is better than 6700 but Shimano has done its homework with 6800. Excellent set.

Using 7900 now and before upgrading to 9000 my LBS ask me to try shimano sp41. Worth to give a try?

I was riding on 6600SL, 6700 and 6800(with 9000 shifters) groupsets.

6600 was better than 6700. 6800 is better than 6700 also, but I can't really say that it is better than 6600. Feel on the shifter was better on 6600 I think.
