Spent some time today working on getting the new red up and running on my bike. I'm running the new front and rear derailleur and new shifters, ultegra 12x25 (for now) cassette w/ a SISL crank with 2011 version Red rings (after having shifting problems with the combo DA big and SISL little ring setup). On the stand at this point it feels like its shifting great! The brakes are coming in tomorrow morning and I should be able to get those on the bike tomorrow night and do the final shift tuning and should have 100+ miles in by sunday night. At that point i'll be able to give my overview of the setup

it's kind of sad, this sort of relief or almost like a revelation within the cycling community that we almost get a SRAM that shifts great in the front, when even a Shimano ultegra did this for so long already.

I disagree with PoorCyclist ... I hated 6700 and paid the extra money for 7900 ... and now I stripped that off and going with the pre-2012 SRAM Red/Force/Rival mix. After "upgrading" from 7800, I have been drastically unsatisfied with Shimano's internal offerings.

11 speed lets you have an 18 on 11-23 & 12-25. COme over to Campagnolo!

You must be or have the worst mechanic in the world if you can't get 7900 to shift well. It has been the easiest to adjust group of any that I have worked on and I've yet to see a bike come in with poor shifting even from botched cable jobs or neglected setups.

Jeez, thanks for your disparaging remarks. I hope you can sort out that Rotor crank issue ... I thought it would be easy for you.

To the thread, I have been quite happy with the Red shifters, Force FD, and Rival RD the last few days. I hope to continue the good shifting.

I just installed a 2012 Red FD on a compact 50x36 with everything else Rival, while I was at it I put new housing and cabling and it shifts way faster than before, the small to big chainring jump is fast now, well compared to the previous rival setup.

I have yet to do a decent ride, just rode 2 miles around the neighborhood but initial impression is very positive.

Now I think I'll have to come out of pocket and get a RED RD so it matches the front, oh well........

Went out for a nice 20 mile ride today, some decent hills. The FD was awesome... flawless shifting up and down. Minor rub when in 53x11; but I can live with that for now; especially since I'm only in that gear for seconds max - maybe a minute.

The cassette was a new experience. First time riding with SRAM; and first time on an 11-28. I think it may have been nosier than my 7700 - but not the way I expected. I just hear the chain; almost like a very muted freehub sound while pedaling. Really though, the noise of the wind is loud enough 90% of the time to drown it completely out.

I did very much notice the shift from 19-22... It will take some getting used to. I kept going from like a 85 cadence in 19 to 98 when in the 22 - so not ideal. Either I have to speed up 19, or slow down in 22. Meanwhile, I never went into 28.. or really 25 for that matter. 22 seemed to be it for this ride; probably in 25 on one effort for a short period. I guess that's good.. Though I'm wondering if I should have gone with the 11-25 cassette. I suppose it doesn't matter too much right now as its beginning of the season, it was a relatively short ride, and there are much bigger hills out there.

I have to tell you, I've been very impressed with the new Red. I just got mine hooked up last week and did a couple of rides over the weekend. Compared to the old Red, the new group is quieter, crisper, and better in the hand. And best of all, the FD is is a HUGE improvement.

Got about 100 miles or so in the new gruppo and I'm a big fan. Coming from Ultegra SL i've noticed a lot less drivetrain drag (probably from the pulley wheels). Shifting is fantastic easily on par with my ultegra stuff. The one downside the shifters are incredibly loud when shifting, not so great if you're trying to be stealthy in a race. Otherwise the stuff is fantastic. I'm kind of interested how the new crank will change things (when I decide to drop the money on it)

Happy to report the new red derailleurs are functioning great with my non 2012 red crank (Hollowgram)!

I'm running Hollowgram too. No problems here at all.
