Just a quick question for owners of SRAM and Shimano groupsets. Is SRAM's up-shifting (going down to a smaller cog) smoothness comparable to Shimano's 12sp groupsets w/ HG+?

I am not saying their shifting feelings should be identical. What I want to know is if SRAM's groupset offers consistent up-shifting performance. For example, maybe it is a downgraded version of HG+, but it is still consistent and won't be as bad as the chain just splash down to a smaller cog.

I am considering SRAM mostly because I am fed up with Shimano's cassettes that make a clicking noise (11-30 8100 and 11-34 8101).

Shifting to smaller cog under power is consistent. I don't care if it clunks to the smaller cog if the shifting happens consistently, which it does. You don't get the Campy mechanical level of clunk at least.

Chris Miller Cycling podcast just talked about this in the last episode, I think their feedback was it's good enough but not as good as HG+

I've been using Red D1 for the past couple years and am now on Red E1. Before that I had only used Shimano. Shimano is smoother. With Red I think the smoothness depends a bit on how much power you're putting in. It can be smooth but if you've been on Shimano for a long time you might be suprised at a mechanical bang as you're working down the gears on the cassette. Personally I like Red better, it has better feel and better interchangability between parts. At this point I don't think I'll be going back to Shimano.
