Is there any room in these apart from the bike? I have an EVOC pro which can fit heaps of other gear in it. These seem narrower at the base but wider at the top.

Does anyone travel with these and fit other items in their bags? I.e shoes, helmet, nutrition etc?

Cheers

I put my shoes, helmet, a tool kit, bottles, and a few sets of kit. It fits a decent amount.

I know you didn't ask, but I would avoid this bag and all soft bags in general. I have two of them and TSA beats the crap out of the bikes, causing my wife's frame to crack at the seatstay. The airline wouldn't cover the damage, stating it was not in a hard case so there's no recourse.

I don't use the second bag any longer and gave the second bag to a friend, who now wraps the bike with 4-inch thick upholstery foam and velcro strips. to protect his bike. Despite this, the force that the airlines and TSA use when transporting the bike is so rough that the bottom plastic in the case has cracked and the mounting hardware that holds the front bar in place was sheered off.

I now have hard cases for travel. I travel approximately 150k miles a year with bikes, and even the hard cases take a beating.

Like others wrote, plenty of space in there. I max out the weight limit by putting lots of stuff in there.
But no shoes. Shoes always in the carry-on luggage. Only item i most likely can't replace at the destination if lost or damaged.

It is easy to fit stuff to the Scicon Aerocomfort bag in addition to the bike. I wouldn't be overly concerned about the possible bike breaking during transportation. If it breaks, it breaks. NBD then. I used hard bike cases earlier, but I don't even want to think about taking off the integrated handlebars for transportation in a hard case. The Scicon bag is reasonably quick to pack and unpack.

I wouldn't want my bike to break. Also I don't want all the hassle with the airline or insurance companys.

There are hard cases were you don't have to take of you handlebar.

In my experience (I fly maybe 20-30 times a year with this bag), the limitation isn't what you can fit in the bag, it's the airline weight limit. I often travel with a tiny carryon and everything else I need in the bag.

Regarding the lack of strength vs hard cases - there is only really a weakness on this bag in protecting the seatstays - but it's easily remedied by adding extra bracing to the case there. Bizarrely I use 1.5l plastic soda bottles with some of the air squeezed out, held in place with masking tape.

Scicon offers a "Rear Triangle Frame Shield" for 110€. But I guess you can achieve similar protection with pieces of thick foam.

The Scicon packs down a lot smaller. And lighter which gives me some extra weight to pack stuff. I’m happy with my Scicon. I use some pipe foam on the tubes and a piece of PVC across the rear triangle, no issues.

Same as others - I have the extra padding for the rear stays and I use their wrapping on the top tube and some pipe foam for the bottom.

It isn't perfect and there is SOME risk of damage but it is light, easy to use and quick to get a bike in and out of.

I have both bags and always use the Scion now as its so quick to pack as you don't need to take off the handlebars which is quite useful on modern bikes with integrated cables. There is not as much room in the Scion but you can easily get shoes, helmet and some clothes in there along with tools you need. I have not had trouble with bikes being damaged but do use extra pipe insulation on rear and handlebars. That part @jayjay posted looks like a nice addition if you go Scion,

Had no problems getting to mallorca with my factor ostro VAM. Just place foam around the frame, easily obtained at a bike shop because every bike comes with it. I stuffed mine to 31kg with clothes, pillow, tools, helmet without any issues. Pillow is also great for protection.

I also wanna try-out the evoc road bike bag pro

Yes, absolutely! Did this the last time I flew with my old Evoc bag.
Mainly because pillows in Airbnbs sometimes suck but every additional protection is welcome.
