Hiya,

Building my old bike up for a permanent trainer setup. I've got 11-speed shifters, cassette & chain.

Just wondering whether I'd get away with a 9-speed double chainset (tiagra)?

Don't want to spend a lot because my last groupset got rather worn on the trainer (seems to eat chainrings for a passtime).

Best regards.

Yes. You can set the difficulty setting when climbing in Zwift, which is really nothing more than an adjustment of your gear range.

Thanks for the reply - I've edited the title as it was a bit confusing.

Basically I have an old 11-speed groupset... everything apart from the chainset.

Rather than spend a lot on a chainset for indoor riding (lots of wear, but no fresh air!), wondering whether I'd get away with something cheaper like a 9-speed chainset.

Should be fine- I've done 2x10 on 9s cranks and measuring them, the spacing between the chainrings on 9s vs 11s is almost identical.

Thanks for the responses - managed to get hold of a new 105 chainset in the end in the right size - so my old one will go on the trainer (avoiding faff!). :)
