Dumb question about routing hydraulic brake line through the bottom bracket shell.

The hose going from the brake-side chainstay to the downtube goes over the BB, not under, right?

It will depend on your BB design (space you have) on the model of bike you have.
You will need to supply more details or pictures....., but generally speaking above is usually an easier option, below (if you have the space) is cleaner.

Not a dumb question. I recently needed to drop the shell body on a ultegra bb on my Standert kreissage. The cable could not bend around it that much.

Make sure the bb you're using has a shield. You don't want the spindle to rub the hose. From the photo, it looks like there's room for it to pass over the bb more easily.

I completely agree. I will also try massaging it into place since without the shield should not be a solution.
However I did not know over way always preferred :-)!
