Geez, call me stupid, but that Merida is one of the worst looking bikes I've seen lately. Yuck.

You're joking, aren't you? Simple SKS fender I assume, but in blue (don't know why actually).

I said to pardon my ignorance, and I haven't used fenders in the last 40 years. So that "fender" actually does something useful?

I didn't mean to offend you! Sorry for misunderstanding. Yup, a couple of my friends use the same one except for the colour. It keeps your a** and back clean. It's poor when you ride in a group as it doesn't protect others from water from the wheel. There are better fenders, some made especially for road bikes, but this is cheap and can be adjusted pretty quickly to different bikes.
