No. Roger De Vlaeminck and his brother Eric were both world cyclo cross champions; the former won the amateur and professional. In between he won just about every big one day race there was to win.

I never took drugs to improve my performance at any time. I will be willing to stick my finger into a polygraph test if anyone with big media pull wants to take issue. If you buy a signed poster now it will not be tarnished later. --Graeme Obree

Yes, obstacles can be passed or overcome in any manner as long as the rider does not leave the course and does not have the assist of other persons or machinery.
