Me and a group of mates are going to the Alps tomorrow. Staying near Alpe d'Huez. We'd like to go and watch next Wednesday's stage between Bourg Saint-Maurice and Le Grand Bornard but we are struggling with the logistics.

We'd love to be able to drive with the bikes in the car to a point that would allow us to ride up to a good vantage point (not necessarily on a road the tour will be using), watch the tour go past and then ride back. Is this possible? Any suggestions or ideas gratefully received

Yep, you should be fine to park up 'off the tours route' and ride up your chosen climb. I've even driven down from UK several times and you can often quite easily dump the car at the very lower slopes of the climb (if it has verges/lay-bys and you are early in the morning), ride the col and back after the Tour passes. However, be prepared for long delays as up to a million people + teams & riders are all trying to get off the mountain if it's a mountain top finish!

Anybody got any ideas of where to park and where to watch on this stage?
