James Huang / Angry Asian has started a new Substack after leaving Escape Collective.

I really missed his reviews and insight - good to see him online again.

No ideas, although I am thinking of cancelling my subscription as it has gone off in strange directions recently into a long form Rouleur style journalism world.

I am really only still a subscriber to Escape for Dave Rome and Ronan McLaughlin contributions. The rest is not so good.

I find that Escape is not as good as CyclingTips used to be, it seems like a publication in love with it's own 'hype' nowadays.

I hope that Dave Rome leaves Escape and joins James at an independent substack.

I only liked the contributions of James, Ronan and Dave an Zach.
I really can't see the added value of the other hosts.

Thanks for the mentions here, everyone, and for even considering subscribing. Lots of work to do on my end (and lots of things to figure out with Substack very quickly!), but here to answer questions in the meantime if anyone has any.

Just thrilled to see you still at it - a voice I very much missed from Escape when you moved forward. Good luck and I look forward to reading

I also have enjoyed your writing for decades. Only wish is that you did more road. Subbed.

Thanks! I need to think about how I cover road bikes and gear. The sad fact of the matter is that while I stil enjoy riding on the road, I do it far, far less than I used to – mostly because I don't exactly love the idea of not knowing for certain if I'm actually going to make it back home in one piece when I roll out of the garage. It's a huge reason – maybe the biggest reason – why gravel riding has grown so popular in the US, and one that's hard to argue with.

I would also agree.

Now with a young family I ride less on pure roads and am more careful to use cycle paths and tracks. I also always ride with a Garmin Varia for extra awareness.

Funny you should mention that :)

I'm actually heading to his house next week to be a guest on one of his upcoming videos.

Same, and hard anyway to appreciate any race coverage that seems to come days or even a week late after I've listened to analysis in other places.

I also think that vast swathes of their content would be better off on YouTube or at least in video form - especially Ronan's tech stuff.

I also hate Discord with a passion so don't really get much value from that feature - I can't find anything, can't search, it's like everything bad from forums combined with everything bad from Twitter.
